Both mosquitos and ticks were contenders for being carriers of Coronavirus but thanks to new research by Advanced Symbolics Inc. it is confirmed that ticks and mosquitos don’t transmit COVID-19. While this is a relief for residents in Western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut, both insects carry potentially harmful diseases.

Avoiding Mosquitos and Ticks

  • Use an insect repellent whenever you’ll be spending time outdoors. The NPMA recommends an EPA-approved repellent that contains at least 20% DEET.
  • Mosquitos only need a half-inch of standing water to breed so keep stagnant water out of flowerpots, baby pools, buckets, tires, toys, and other objects.
  • Cut grass low and remove weeds and debris, and keep shrubbery trimmed.
  • Wear light-colored clothing, as it can be easier to spot any ticks hitching a ride home with you.
  • Avoid walking through tall grass.
  • Ensure all screened windows are without holes.
  • Always perform thorough checks on you, your family, and your pets following an excursion.

Ticks and mosquitos don’t transmit COVID-19 but using these tips can help prevent transmission of other deadly diseases.
